About Mia Maya
My name is Mia Maya, and I work with ceramics and design. For me, ceramics is a slow and tactile process, where the character of the material is allowed to come forward.
I trained as a porcelain painter at Royal Copenhagen in 2008 and later graduated in Ceramic Design from the Royal Danish Academy in 2016. These experiences guide my approach: a mix of traditional craft and a quiet, simple design language.
Since 2016, I have been running my studio, Mia Maya Design. I started out in a shared workshop in Frederiksberg, and since 2023 I’ve been working from my own studio in Jægerspris. Here, every piece passes through my hands—from the first lines on paper to the final decoration. I work mainly with porcelain and stoneware, often exploring the contrast between matte surfaces and glossy details, giving each piece its own subtle expression.
My ceramics are available in my webshop and at craft fairs, and I also collaborate with Designmuseum Denmark, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Dina Vejling Dansk Kunsthåndværk in Odense, NR 4 and 1+1 Textil in Aarhus, Keramik & Glasværkstedet in Copenhagen, as well as cafés and restaurants across Europe.
