Mia Maya Design creates timeless, handmade ceramics that are crafted to last for generations. Each piece is thoughtfully designed and individually handcrafted by Mia Maya, the creative force behind this one-woman company. Her focus on high-quality craftsmanship ensures that every item, made in small batches, stands out for its attention to detail and unique character.
Production Process
At the heart of Mia Maya Design is Mia's workshop, where she uses traditional techniques such as casting, throwing and hand-painting to create her signature ceramics. All decorated pieces are skillfully decorated with brush-applied glazes, resulting in truly one-of-a-kind products.
Design & Inspiration
Mia Maya’s designs are rooted in functional minimalism with a Scandinavian aesthetic. Her muted clay tones and simple forms offer a distinct look, while the hand-painted glaze patterns bring a nostalgic, graphic touch. Every piece carries a balance between material, form, and decoration, creating an unmistakable visual harmony. The collection is also designed with versatility in mind, allowing different colors, patterns, and shapes to mix and match seamlessly.
Sustainability is a natural part of how I work with clay and glaze.
Sustainability is an integrated part of my ceramic practice, where I focus on minimizing waste and making full use of every material. Throughout my process, I recycle both clay and glaze to ensure that nothing is discarded unnecessarily.
When I remove glaze from the bottom of my pieces, I collect the scrapings and blend them back into a reusable glaze, which I then use for decoration. Similarly, when I rinse glaze off the outside of a piece, I let the glaze particles settle so I can pour off the excess water and reuse the concentrated glaze material. These methods are a deliberate part of how I work. They allow me to reduce resource use and create ceramics with respect for both the craft and the environment.

Durability & Everyday Use
All Mia Maya Design products are made to be used every day. They are dishwasher- and microwave-safe, making them not only beautiful but also practical for modern life.
Maintenance
The ceramics are fired up to 1260°C, giving them durability and a smooth, soft texture thanks to hand-polished surfaces. While the unglazed surfaces may develop unique marbling or slight variations, these are not defects but a hallmark of the handmade process.
Care and Cleaning
Unglazed surfaces are more susceptible to marks and discoloration than fully glazed ceramics. To give the surface extra protection, you can apply a small amount of cooking oil or any other food-safe oil. To preserve the look of the ceramics, regular cleaning in the dishwasher is recommended. Most marks will disappear either in the dishwasher or by letting the piece soak in warm water with a dishwasher tablet. If more stubborn stains or discolorations occur, they can often be removed with bleach or limescale remover. Dark cutlery marks on the glaze can typically be removed with “The Pink Stuff” or rinse aid. Please note that we cannot guarantee that the ceramics will not develop stains or discoloration over time.
